Operating Instructions
Instant "On Demand"Hot Water
All Butler System Upholstery tools come standard with the Instant “On Demand” Hot Water feature installed. This feature creates a constant, low volume flow of water into the vacuum hose of the tool to maintain the temperature of the cleaning water. It is important to note that when the Butler System Upholstery Tool is equipped with the Instant “On Demand” Hot Water feature, it must be connected to the vacuum hose of the Butler System any time the solution hose shutoff valve is turned on, or water may flow out of the tool. If you experience water “leaking” from the head, or vacuum coupler end of the tool while it is not connected to the vacuum hose of the Butler System, this may be due to the Instant “On Demand” Hot Water feature and it does not necessarily signify a defect or problem with the tool.
Shown below are two Upholstery Tool Valve assemblies, the valve on the left is equipped with the Instant “On Demand” Hot Water feature and the one on the right is without. If you wish to remove the feature, simply remove the Instant “On Demand” Hot Water Jet and reinstall the blue solution hose back into the valve body with thread sealant.

How to Begin Cleaning
1. Begin by attaching the 1.5” Hose Cuff on your Butler System’s Vacuum Leader Hose to the Vacuum Hose Coupler on the tool.
NOTE: If you are using a 2” vacuum hose you will need a 2” x 1.5” Reducer Hose Cuff available from our supply division. Part Number: PDC400 You may order this accessory by scanning the QR code.
2. Attach your solution hose to the Solution Quick Connect on the Vacuum Hose Coupler end of the tool. Turn on your solution hose shutoff valve.
3. Use the Vacuum Thumb Vent to adjust the vacuum to the desired level.
4. Use the Thumb Adjustment Screw to adjust the water volume to the desired level. Turning the Thumb Adjustment Screw clockwise will increase the water volume, turning it counter-clockwise will decrease the water volume.
Do not unscrew the Thumb Adjustment Screw all of the way while the Upholstery Tool is in use. Doing so will cause the Thumb Adjustment Screw to become detached from the Upholstery Tool and scalding hot water may be discharged unexpectedly.
5. Place the head of the tool down against the upholstery being cleaned and squeeze the trigger while sliding the head of the tool towards you. Release the trigger before lifting the head of the tool off of the upholstery. Do this repeatedly until the desired area has been cleaned. You may go back over the area you previously cleaned with the head of the tool for additional drying passes if desired.

Upholstery Tool Maintenance
Recommended Tools and Supplies
The items shown in the image below are the recommended tools and supplies for maintaining and repairing your Butler System Upholstery Tool.
Cleaning or Replacing the Inline Filter
To clean the inline filter you will need your 6” & 8” adjustable wrenches. Locate the Inline Filter Fitting at the Vacuum Coupler end of the tool.
Use the 6” & 8” adjustable wrenches to unscrew the two halves of the Inline Filter Fitting and remove the filter.
Clean the filter by rinsing out any loose debris with water, then soak in white vinegar for about 30 minutes. After 30 minutes, rinse the filter again in water and reassemble the filter fitting using the 6” & 8” adjustable wrenches. Be careful not to overtighten.
If the inline filter is badly corroded or you find any holes in the screen it is best to replace the filter with a new one. Simply insert the new filter into the Inline Filter Fitting and reassemble using your 6” & 8” adjustable wrenches, being careful not to overtighten. A replacement filter, Part Number: P5053100SS, can be ordered by scanning the QR code below.
Replacing the Thumb Adjustment Screw O-RIng
To replace the Thumb Adjustment Screw o-ring you will need a replacement o-ring, Part Number: P9452K15 . You may order this part by scanning the QR code below. You will also need an o-ring pick, and o-ring Lubricant.
Remove the Thumb Adjustment Screw from the valve by turning it counter clockwise with your fingers. Use your o-ring pick to remove the old o-ring. Carefully install the new o-ring, being careful not to tear it. Then apply a small amount of o-ring lubricant to the o-ring before reinstalling. Reinstall the thumbscrew by turning it clockwise.
Replacing the Solution Spray Jet
We recommend replacing the Solution Spray Jet any time it becomes clogged or the spray pattern coming out of the jet becomes erratic or appears to leave streaks in the upholstery being cleaned. To replace the solution spray jet you will need a ratchet with a 13mm socket, PTFE thread seal tape, and a replacement jet, Part Number: PH1/88001. You may order a replacement by scanning the QR code below.
Start by locating the Solution Spray Jet. Use your ratchet with a 13mm socket to unscrew the old jet. Once the old jet is removed, be sure to clean any of the old PTFE thread seal tape out of the threads in the valve body.
Wrap the new jet with about 3 wraps of PTFE thread seal tape, insert it into the threaded hole in the valve body and start the threads with your fingers. Once the threads are started, use your ratchet with a 13mm socket to tighten the jet. Be sure not to over tighten.
Once the jet is tight, turn it to align the spray pattern so that it is parallel to the lips on the end of the tool head.
Repairing the Valve
To repair the Butler System Upholstery Tool Valve you will need an Upholstery Tool Repair Kit, Part Number: ZP108855. You may order this part by scanning the QR code below. You will also need a standard hex key set, an 8” adjustable wrench, low strength threadlocker, and o-ring lubricant.
To begin, use a 7/64” hex key to remove the two fasteners that hold the trigger. Once the trigger is removed, use the 8” adjustable wrench to unscrew the old valve repair kit from the valve body.
Once the old repair kit is removed, you can prepare the new repair kit and apply some o-ring lubricant to the seals. Install the new repair kit and tighten it until seated with the 8” adjustable wrench. Finally, apply some low strength threadlocker to the ends of the trigger screws and reinstall them using a 7/64” hex key.
